英国出身、学生時代にはアート・スクールで学び、卒業後の60年代半ばからはIAIN MATTHEWSとのTHE PYRAMIDをはじめプロのギタリストとしてバンド活動。その後、アート・ディレクター、デザイナーを経て、写真家へ転向し、「VOGUE」や「MARIE CLAIRE」等の一流誌でファッション・フォトグラファーとして活躍したSTEVE HIETT。

邦題『渚にて』。本作は83年にCBSソニーで制作された日本盤オンリーの唯一のソロ・アルバムで、現ワタリウム美術館の前身現代美術画廊ギャルリー・ワタリの依頼で個展の開催が提案されたことをきっかけに始動したプロジェクトでした。

元々はカタログに付随させるシングルのために行われたというHIETT単独でのパリのラジオ局でのセッションと、ELLIOTT RANDALLが参加したニューヨークでのセッションを経て、本の出来を確かめるために来日したHIETTに対してレコード会社は突如アルバム分の製作を依頼。急遽ホテルの部屋で楽曲を仕上げ、翌日にはスタジオ入り。本来HIETT自身が予定していなかった東京でのセッションには、再びHIETTが呼び寄せたELLIOTT RANDALLとともに、ムーンライダーズの岡田徹 (KEY)、白井良明 (G)、鈴木博文 (G)、武川雅寛 (VIOLIN)、そして加藤和彦 (G)といったミュージシャンが参加することとなりました。
